Purpose. Passion. Success.
Towards their Growth
6 weeks - 12 years
Our caregivers inspire your infant's development by singing, reading stories, playing games and planning special activities. Most of all, they spend much of their day cuddling and talking to your baby instilling trust, security and providing comfort. Through daily written and oral communication, you will be informed about every part of your infant's day. Mom and Dad, we ensure that you remain the most significant and important adult in your baby's life.
As your infant's curiosity leads him to take first steps, we encourage the embracement of "toddlerhood". Planned, themed activities promote curiosity and will allow your toddler to exercise her budding independence. Other milestones such as self-feeding and socialization skills are encouraged and supported by our experienced and professionally trained teachers. In our toddler class, the pre-literacy skill, phonemic awareness, or the sounds of language, is introduced as teachers sing nursery rhymes, poems, popular children's songs, read Bible stories and simply talk with the children.
As toddlers reach that all-important "two-year" milestone, they say "goodbye" to babyhood and strive towards independence. Children will be introduced to the concept of learning centers for imaginary play, blocks, puzzles, creative art and dramatic play experiences. A balance of quiet activities with plenty of fun and excitement including music and movement, running and jumping will ensure your tireless two year old will never be bored! Teachers continue to reinforce the necessary prereading skill, phonemic awareness, or the sounds of language, by singing nursery rhymes, poems, popular children's songs, reading Bible stories and simply talking with the children.
Our preschool program promotes a balance of active, hands-on learning and play. Our experienced and dedicated teachers continue to nurture children with positive words and lots of hugs as they provide a variety of themed activities that will strengthen their social, cognitive and motor skills as well as their creativity and independence. Our preschool program also introduces children to the alphabetic principle (associating the written symbol to each sound of the alphabet, which was learned as a two), which is a precursor to later reading and writing success.
The themed curriculum in our Pre-K classrooms incorporates the state's recommended knowledge and skills for Pre-K. We include activities that continue to build upon the pre-reading and writing skills such as phonemic awareness and the alphabetic principle and also begin teaching children to read and write by putting letters together to form words and words together to form simple sentences. Basic math concepts, science and social study skills, technology and lots of fun arts and crafts are also included in our Pre-K program. Our goal is to have your child ready for Kindergarten - in ALL developmental areas!
Frequent field trips that support the monthly themes extend learning beyond the classroom walls and allow children to enrich and apply knowledge they have learned in the classroom.
**Curriculum related field trips are paid for by Pettit Private School!**
